By Alicia Bement, Strategic Channel Partner Manager, RUX Software
I've spent over ten years in the Microsoft Dynamics channel, which means I've seen a lot of partnerships. Some great ones, the "it's complicated" ones, and a few that probably should've come with a prenup. What I've learned is that good software partners don't just sit next to each other on a sales sheet. They complement each other's strengths, and that collaboration is one of the biggest advantages RUX can help bring to customers.
Nothing beats watching a software partner walk a customer through a solution and seeing the moment they realize Business Central can do more than they thought. That's the good stuff. And it usually doesn't happen by accident. It happens because the right partners are in the room. The customer gets a better solution, the partner strengthens their offering, and the entire industry grows stronger.
Some partnerships are one-and-done: a single project, a handshake, and a job well executed. Others evolve into relationships that continue paying off for years. In my experience, the difference almost always comes down to choosing the right ISV from the start.
There are plenty of ISV solutions in the Business Central ecosystem. Choosing the right one for your clients means looking beyond the feature list and thinking about what the relationship actually needs to deliver.
I believe an ISV should understand the industries it serves, not just know its product inside and out. When a customer asks a question about how their operation actually runs, the ISV should be able to contribute meaningful insight, not just point back to a specification sheet.
At RUX, we've focused on asset-intensive industries such as industrial equipment rental and commercial field service rather than trying to be everything to everyone. That focus means that when clients ask difficult questions - the ones that go far beyond, "How do I use this feature?" - we can help provide answers grounded in real-world experience.
Because of this industry focus, we're able to support software partners with knowledge they may not have in-house. When questions come up about maintenance scheduling, utilization tracking, inspections, contracts, or operational workflows, we bring practical expertise to the conversation.
I think of RUX less as a product vendor and more as a specialist extension of the partner's team. The partner owns the relationship, and we help strengthen it with industry knowledge and experience whenever it's needed.
Business Central moves quickly and customers expect their software investments to keep pace. In my view, a good ISV isn't simply releasing updates. It's actively listening to customers, collaborating with partners, and continually improving its solutions. The best ISVs don't let their products stagnate after the initial sale. They continue investing in innovation because customer needs continue to evolve.
Offering a great product is only half the job. What happens after the contract is signed is where partnerships either prove themselves or fall apart.
When I evaluate partnerships, I look for organizations that show up for demos, solution design sessions, implementation planning, training, and support. Too many companies hand over a license key and disappear. I've always believed that long-term success comes from being available when partners and customers need support, not just when a deal is being negotiated.
I've learned that the best software partnerships run on trust, responsiveness, and honest communication. You're going to spend a lot of time working together, so cultural fit matters.
I want to work with partners who view opportunities as shared efforts rather than transactions. The strongest relationships I've built have always come from organizations that are invested in mutual success instead of simply trying to maximize their share of a deal.
Here's the reality: I don't believe any single company can be an expert in every industry, every process, and every customer's unique challenges. That's exactly why partnerships are so valuable within the Business Central ecosystem.
By partnering with specialized ISVs, I see partners expand what they can offer without creating additional strain on their teams. Instead of building custom solutions from scratch and absorbing the associated cost, time, and risk, partners gain access to proven applications designed for specific business challenges. The result is typically faster implementations, lower project risk, and happier customers.
I've also seen strong partnerships accelerate sales cycles. When partners are confident in the solution and trust the ISV supporting them, they spend less time evaluating alternatives and more time helping customers move forward. Customers gain confidence when they see multiple experts collaborating on their behalf because they know they're getting a team that understands both the technology and the business.
There's also a growth component that can't be ignored. When partners and ISVs solve more problems together, they naturally create opportunities for larger projects, broader Business Central deployments, and stronger long-term customer relationships. It's one of the most effective ways I've seen partners expand their capabilities without spending years building every solution themselves.
One of my favorite parts of this industry is watching partners actively support one another. At RUX, I regularly meet organizations that are considering Business Central for the first time, and I'm always happy to make introductions when there's a good fit. I've always viewed partnership as a two-way street, not a one-way referral pipeline.
At RUX, I talk a lot about building partnerships with staying power, and that's not just a phrase I use in presentations. It's how I approach every relationship. My goal isn't to hand partners software and wish them luck. My goal is to have RUX become a genuine extension of their team.
At RUX we work with software partners throughout the entire customer journey, from the earliest "Is this even possible in Business Central?" conversations through demonstrations, implementation planning, and long after go-live. Whether a partner wants us deeply involved in an opportunity or prefers to lead while we support from the background, we adapt to complement their preferred business model.
One statistic I'm genuinely proud of is that when RUX is involved from the first demonstration, we achieve over a 60% close rate. I've found that early collaboration helps prospects better understand the value of the solution and gives them confidence that the project aligns with their business goals.
I also believe partners benefit from working with a company that has deep roots in the Microsoft ecosystem. RUX is a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Business Applications, and everything we support is designed specifically for Business Central rather than adapted from another platform. Our applications are Microsoft-certified, which helps reduce implementation risk and accelerate time to value.
Beyond the technology itself, we invest heavily in the relationship. We provide enablement resources, product expertise, training, and ongoing support because we understand that a partner's reputation is on the line every time RUX products are introduced to a customer.
Most importantly, we're committed to the long term. This channel runs on relationships and the strongest partnerships I've seen over the past decade weren't built overnight. They were built through trust, consistency, and a willingness to show up time and time again. That's the kind of partnership I strive to create.
The Business Central market continues to create meaningful opportunities for software partners who collaborate and combine their strengths. When partners find the right software ISV, they gain more than another product to offer. They gain expertise, support, industry knowledge, and an extended team invested in their success.
I believe the best partnerships create value for everyone at the table, especially the customer.
